Winter is no season for marble heartbreak—especially in a Stone Harbor home designed to shine year after year. While homeowners escaped the cold, we gave their Stone Harbor marble some much needed attention—so it would be flawless and carefree when they return in Spring.
It was, in fact, the ideal time. While the owners were enjoying the salty sea air, sunshine and sailing courses in Florida, their Stone Harbor residence quietly underwent a thoughtful refresh. In addition to painting, the marble surfaces received a comprehensive stone makeover. As part of that process, all grouted areas were also color sealed (more on that shortly).
This project was referred and coordinated by interior design specialist–Bridget McMullin. Her thoughtful oversite ensured every detail aligned beautifully with the homeowners’ vision. Given the timing and layout, our restoration, refinement, and protection of the marble surfaces was completed as a stand alone projects. For it was located in a separate area from other surfaces being refreshed. As a result, the work proceeded smoothly—without disrupting other trades or the homeowners’ winter escape.
Before any work began, a preliminary walkthrough was scheduled. Prior to that visit, we provided a general overview of the restoration process and introduced a few optional upgrades. The upgrades could enhance both the appearance and performance moving forward. discussed. In addition, we also introduced some exciting upgrades which might be of interest. Benefitting both appearance and performance it was shared as either or both might benefit this project. So timing was right to share the technology (discussed below).
During the walkthrough, a precise plan was created to restore the marble and bath properly. At that time, it was determined the upgrade options were well suited for the surfaces, should the homeowner want to consider them.
Following the inspection, a comprehensive marble polishing action list was developed. We also had an open discussion about the river rock shower pan. A favored but naturally textured surface, the homeowners understood the cleaning limitations and did not expect miracles. Instead, deep cleaning and sanitizing were agreed upon as the appropriate realistic goal. Discover why river rock shower pans are nearly impossible to clean…
The work was approved in advance. In particular, both Bridget and the homeowers were excited about the grout color sealing— especially after learning that its benefits extend far beyond appearance.
As explained verbally and demonstrated and in this video we shared, grout color sealing is a game changer. Not only does it dramatically improve the look of grout, it also enhances its performance. The real “secret sizzle” was hard to ignore: grout, which harbors germs much like a kitchen sink, would now have bacterail and fungal–resistant properties.
We also introduced our Etch Protection Program, an ideal solution designed to protect marble surfaces at risk of etching damage for marble countertops. This system helps shield vulnerable marble from ongoing acid etching caused by everyday use and exposure. In example things that may etch or damage the marble (or other stone surfaces) include common acidic foods and beverages, bath and body care products, as well as cleaning products mistakedly used that are not stone-friendly.
This could be a welcome relief for those who stress about their marble. Learning the hard way people actually tear out marble because of its staining and dulling suceptability. Or they find themselves policing others everytime they entertain. So having marble in high use, entertaining applications can be a real headache. (I can’t tell you the clients who complain or confide in us how they wish they never got marble in the first place. Not only that, they also curse having to correct, even reprimand guests and visitors.)

While not necessary for every application, it is ideally suited when cost–benefits align with the need. Or it is helpful when clients prefer every available protection option for their stone surfaces.
In this case we explained the purpose of etch protection but advised the homeowners that it was not essential in their situation. The vanity top, it was modest in size. It was in excellent condition for its age. And it was unlikely to see a strong return on investment from the added protection. The homeowers appreciated our candor and chose not to move forward with the upgrade.
Both Bridget and the homeowners valued the education provided on all available options. Together, and with our guidance, it was determined which upgrades truly benefited this project.
Bridget was also in agreement that etch protection was not necessary here, while acknowledging that it is an impressive solution for other applications. She expressed appreciation for the introduction and noted it would be ideal for future clients and projects she encounters.
Our tasks were straightforward and carefully executed:
While on site overseeing other improvements, Bridget stopped in to review the work in progress. We walked her through what was completed and what remained and how the final polish would perform and appear. Her oversight ensured that every detail—from all contracting—was aligned beautifully ahead of the homeowners April return.
Each stone surface was carefully refined to enhance natural veining and depth, without over-polishing or flattening the stone’s character. The final polish delivered a pristine outcome—the marble now shines beautifully, as if brand new.
The river rock shower pan, while true to its natural enbedded texture (in mortar), looked noticeably improved and— most importantly—was thoroughly sanitized, which greatly pleased the homeowners.
Finally, the grout color sealing truly elevated the space! It not only enhanced appearancem it delivered a genuinely carefree result. Going forward, the grout is protected from staining, moisture and contamination. Routine maintenance will be dramatically easier. And with built in germ–resistant properties, fewer bacteria and fungi can take hold within the grout joints.
The homeowners will return to a refreshed, luminous Stone Harbor home where the marble doesn’t just look stunning—it stays that way. From floors and walls to the cathedral ceiling and river rock shower pan, each surface was restored, protected and refined for long term enjoyment and ease of care.
For Stone Harbor homeowners who value expert care and long–lasting results, this project demonstrates how thoughtful stone restoration preserves both beauty and confidence—long after the work is done.
A job well done. And a designer and her clients well served!
